Welcome Letter

Dear Alamosa Park Families,

Welcome to Alamosa Park (AP) Elementary – A California Distinguished School! The AP faculty is committed to providing high quality instruction within a supportive learning environment, preparing students for the 21st Century. We are proud and most fortunate to work with your child and your family.

Our vision is to nurture student leaders who explore, discover, and connect to their world through Leadership, Engineering, the Arts, Design Thinking, and Science. Our mission is to provide a learning environment that cultivates leaders by engaging the heart and mind of all students and developing a spirit of empathy, creativity, perseverance, and collaboration.

AP teachers are implementing Common Core State Standards (CCSS). By teaching CCSS, we provide students a variety of learning experiences through Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, and Critical Thinking – 21st Century learning skills. Students will learn how to apply what they have learned to real world situations.

AP is proud of our exemplary record of student achievement and “whole child” approach to education, with an emphasis on Health, Fitness, and Communication through Dual Language Immersion (Grades TK-5).

Recognition for students in the areas of leadership and academic performance take place during monthly assemblies. In addition to daily classroom instruction, students will receive choral music, STEM, and Physical Education - Dance instruction (Grades TK-3, 60 minutes; Grades 4-5, 90 minutes). Students who are in Grades 4 and 5 are invited to participate in Lunchtime Intramural athletics (Flag Football, Basketball, and Soccer). Our discipline policy and leadership programs emphasize positive recognition for appropriate behavior and support our safe school environment.

AP values and appreciates a high level of parental involvement as well as the additional funding received from our AP Education Foundation (APEF) and Parent Teacher Association (PTA). Generous donations significantly enhance our academic and extracurricular programs.

If you ever have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me or your child’s teacher. Thank you for taking an active part in your child's education. We look forward to meeting you soon. Go Hawks!

Sincerely,
Kyle C. Ruggles, EdD
